A Message from Aspiration's Head of Sustainability

Hello Aspiration community!

My name is Chad Hunter, the Head of Sustainability at Aspiration. This year, I’m excited to go on a journey with you all. In a series of articles I will create throughout this year, we will delve into the world of individual sustainability, exploring how our everyday choices impact the planet and how, together, we can make a significant difference.

These articles won’t be doom-and-gloom. They won’t be full of jargon. And they won’t be vague or impractical. We’ve all had enough of that.

Instead, these are going to be packed full of interesting, credible, and most importantly, actionable information. Because the truth is, there’s a lot of noise out there when it comes to sustainability, and we’re here to help you cut through the clutter.

So, what can you expect from this series, specifically? Glad you asked. Here are just some of the things I plan on covering throughout 2024.

  • Individuals, companies, and governments: who bears the responsibility for climate change?

    • Unraveling the complex web of responsibility in the fight against climate change. Are individuals, companies, and governments equally accountable, or does one hold more weight than the others?

  • Connecting the dots: how do YOUR actions actually impact climate change?

    • Understanding the ripple effect of your daily choices on the environment. From your morning commute to your shopping habits, discover how each aspect of your life does or does not contribute to the climate crisis.

  • Taking action: what are the best things you can (realistically) do to fight climate change?

    • Practical insights into the most effective actions you can take to contribute to the global effort against climate change. From simple lifestyle changes to supporting impactful initiatives, we've got you covered.

  • Aspiration's impact: how does managing your money with Aspiration actually create positive change?

    • Exploring how aligning with Aspiration amplifies your sustainability efforts. Learn about the unique role our green banking alternatives play in driving positive change and reducing your carbon footprint.

  • Understanding the nuances: how do waste, water, carbon dioxide impact climate change?

    • We'll explore how these elements interconnect, and offer practical insights to address each aspect, empowering you to make informed decisions in your sustainability journey.

If any of that sounds interesting, stay tuned on our website and across our social media channels!

If that sounds daunting, don’t worry. We understand the importance of making sustainability accessible to everyone. Each article will be based on science so that you know you’re getting the best information, but it will also be approachable and provide action-oriented content.

At the top of every article, you can expect a handy set of tips and takeaways so that you can get to the good stuff right away. These actionable insights will serve as a quick guide for those ready to jump into sustainable living right away. For those eager to delve into the underlying science, I’ll provide more context in the rest of the article along with supporting details and references. Whether you're a sustainability newbie or a science buff, I want to meet you where you are and be helpful regardless.

As we embark on this journey together, get ready for an empowering 2024 filled with positive change. Remember, it's the small actions that collectively make a big difference. Stay tuned for practical advice, eye-opening insights, and a renewed sense of purpose as we navigate the path toward a more sustainable future.
